Friday
Friday night was the first single gameday of the week and the opening game of the season which saw newly promoted Brentford vs Arsenal. All the weeks and months of planning drafts and tinkering with the team had all come down to this moment and I could not wait to get started. Brentford striker Ivan Toney was selected in my final team and would be my captain for the opening night as Arsenal assets have been on the decline. Unfortunately, Toney failed to get any attacking returns despite looking dangerous, however he was awarded with the MOTM award so anyone who captained him were rewarded with a 10 point haul to start the season. Sergi Canós (£.7.3 Million) was the standout player in this game and rewarded 1.12% of owners with a nice 13 point haul which included a goal, Tier 1 shots bonus and Tier 2 tackle bonus.

Saturday
Saturday was a massive day for my team as I managed to score 97 points across eight players. On Saturday my captain Mohamed Salah (£11.9 Million) returned 36 points as captain as his haul included a goal, two assists, shot tier one and the MOTM award. Bruno Fernandes (£11.8 Million) also returned a nice 23 point haul as he managed a hattrick alongside shots Tier 2 for his 50.2% of owners. The decision to go with a triple up on Leicester also paid off as Çağlar Söyüncü (£8.2 million) returned 10 points with a clean sheet a Tier 2 passing. The bonus magnets in midfield also done a solid job with Wilfred Ndidi (£7.5 Million) returning four points by picking up Tier 1 passing and Youri Tielemans (£8.8 Million) managed to get Tier 2 in both passing and tackles for an eight point return.

The decision to go with a double up in the Liverpool defence over Brighton also paid it’s dividends as Trent Alexander-Arnold (£10.5 Million) and Konstantinos Tsimikas (£6.6 Million) both returned seven points each with a clean sheet in a 3-0 win over Norwich. My only concern with Tsimikas is that Andy Robertson looks close to a return, so I am hoping Tsimikas can play on the weekend vs Burnley and keep another clean sheet then, the decision to pick him will be justified even if he misses the fixture against Chelsea. Emiliano Martínez (£7.2 Million) was my other asset playing on Saturday however he failed to pick up any further returns as his Tier 1 saves bonus was wiped out by the three goals he conceded in a 3-2 defeat vs Watford.

Sunday
Sunday featured two games, the early kick-off saw Newcastle host Westham and the evening game seen Spurs take on Manchester City at home. I had selected both Michail Antonio (£8.8 Million) and Rúben Dias (£10.6 Million) in my final draft so there was plenty of choice with who to captain. In the end Antonio was my captain due to being slightly more explosive than the reliable Dias. The 11.42% owned Antonio did not disappoint with a 30 point haul as captain which included Shots Tier 1 bonus, a goal an assist and a MOTM award, but I felt like it should have been an even bigger return as Antonio hit the post and missed a penalty minutes later.

In the evening fixture Ruben Dias started as Tottenham hosted Manchester City. In this game Son scored the only goal as Spurs went onto Win 1-0 wiping out my clean sheet points. Dias surprisingly also failed to return with his usual passing bonus as the only City defender than managed to do so was Benjamin Mendy (£8 million) so once again it was a bitter sweet end to what was a great opening week. Standout players from this day included Saïd Benrahma (£7.8 Million) who returned his 2.76% of owners with an 11 point return with a goal and an assist and Tomáš Souček (£8.2 Million) who returned his 16.22% of owners with a 13 haul with Tier 2 tackle bonus, Tier 1 shots bonus and a goal to top it off. I will be keeping an eye on these over the new few weeks as I look to create a list of players to use for my overhaul drafts at the end of week three.

Mini League Update

Gameweek one also was the start of my free to join mini league on Twitter for this seasons game with the Winner getting a free football league jersey of their choice and a trophy. In total there were 330 entries from top managers across the game. Sitting at the top of the Leaderboard six points clear is John Kerr after scoring a massive 150 points on the opening weekend. I would just like to thanks everyone who took the time to join and I wish everyone involved the best of luck for the weeks ahead were the competition will heat up.

Final Thoughts
I am very pleased with how my team has finished the 1st Gameweek with Nine out of Eleven players all returning. In the upcoming Gameweek I am tempted to swap out Salah for Kane on Sunday if he starts. This will allow me to miss Salah’s fixture vs Chelsea in Gameweek three and get Kane’s fixtures against Wolves and Watford were he looks to be the standout captain on that day. This week’s captains are fairly straightforward as I plan to play it safe by captaining Salah on the Saturday, however if your feeling brave a City asset against Norwich or even Danny Ings vs Newcastle could be a worthwhile shout.

As mentioned on Sunday the standout picks for captaincy include a Spurs attacker or the ever reliable Bruno Fernandes who I will be captaining. On Monday’s fixture of Westham vs Leicester I expect plenty of goals so the plan is to Captain Antonio but I certainly wouldn’t be against anyone captaining any Leicester assets such as Ndidi ,Tielemans or even Söyüncü.

Gameweek Two Captains
Saturday-Mohamed Salah/Ruben Dias
Sunday- Bruno Fernandes/Harry Kane
Monday-Michail Antonio/Youri Tielemans
